Dr. Wallace J. Nichols, author of Blue Mind, has sadly passed away. The whole community mourns the loss of Dr. Wallace J. Nichols, their lifelong friend and advisor, with sad hearts. To put it simply, without J, the Plastic Pollution Coalition would not exist. He has guided, connected, and inspired us since the beginning. At the time of this writing the cause of his death has not been disclosed. His family will disclose what might have led to his death at their own discretion.
About Wallace J. Nichols
J was an ocean and wild water enthusiast, marine biologist, and ardent supporter of sea turtles. He made it his goal to help every person discover their Blue Mind, which is a state of calm, unity, and inspiration to preserve and restore nature that is induced by water and serves as a counterbalance to the “red mind” stress that many of us face today.
His work, which is based on awe and connection rather than guilt and fear, has inspired people all over the world to protect and restore the oceans and other natural areas. It has also become a global movement and influenced numerous environmental organizations, businesses, and educational institutions. “Blue Mind turned turtle poachers into turtle protectors,” he said in his explanation. We have nominated him for the 2023 Earthshot Prize and the 2024 Aloha Award for his wide-ranging and outstanding contributions. Blue Mind is currently reaching a whole new generation.

Through this global art initiative, J contacted over 1 billion individuals, including His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Dr. Sylvia Earle, and Dr. Jane Goodall. His funeral arrangements and obituary will be announced by his family.
